Define and explain the mechanisms of action, routes of administration, therapeutic uses, adverse
effects and contraindications of any one of the commonly used western pharmaceutical drugs
taught from session 5 to 9 and refer to the drug class to which the selected drug belongs.
? Discuss the general principles of human physiology and pathophysiology of the disease to which
the selected drug and drug class is indicated.
? Appraise and characterise the types and mechanisms of adverse reactions and interactions
between the selected Western pharmaceutical drugs and choice of yours complementary medicine
i.e. Western herbs or Chinese herbs or nutritional supplements and explain the interactions at
molecular and cellular level.
? Recognise how to prevent adverse reactions between the selected Western pharmaceutical drug
and Western herbs, Chinese herbs and nutritional supplements.
? Utilise reference materials and current research evidence to obtain information on drugs, Western
herbs, Chinese herbs and nutritional supplements.
