Case 3, “The New Manager Needs a Coach.” Case 21, “Whose Decision Is It About Which Positions Are Filled?” Determine whether the leader in the selected case study was able to offer a sound solution to address a specific situation involving an ethical practice which he or she faced. In addition to the unit readings, use the Capella library to locate one or more academic peer-reviewed journal articles on leadership that you can use to support your analysis of the situation. Specifically: Identify which case study you selected and briefly summarize the facts surrounding the case study. Note: The case study may not supply all of the information you may need. In such cases, you should consider a variety of possibilities and infer potential conclusions. However, please be sure to identify any speculations that you make. Identify the leader. Clearly state the problems the leader is faced with. Analyze the factors that contributed to the problem. Analyze how the leadership approach makes this leader more effective or less effective in building relationships across disciplines within his or her organization. Discuss the leadership approach of this leader. Determine, based on your view, how likely it will be that this leader will be able to build and maintain collaborative relationships with other communities and leaders outside his or her organization. Support your review with at least one citation and appropriate APA reference to a peer-reviewed journal article or other scholarly source. Assess instances where a leader communicated effectively or ineffectively. Summarize how well this leader communicates with others. Describe the role of communication and communication strategies in both creating and resolving the issues presented in the case study. Summarize a leader’s ability to manage leadership responsibilities to resolve problems, pointing out solutions that can be applied by another leader. Clarify how effectively the leader addressed any problems involving ethical practice in the case. Summarize how well the leader managed professional responsibilities and priorities to resolve the issue in the case. Discuss the key lessons this case provide for leaders. Use examples to clarify and support your ideas. Produce writing that conveys understanding of the topic, its context, and its relevance. Use academic writing conventions such as APA formatting and citation style or others as required. Produce writing with minimal errors in grammar, usage, spelling, and mechanics. Organize your paper using the following structure and headings: Title page. (A separate page.) Introduction. A brief statement about the purpose of the paper. (One paragraph.) The Leadership Dilemma. (2–4 paragraphs.) Identify the leader. Clearly state the problems the leader is faced with. Identify the factors that contributed to the problem. The Leadership Approach and Effective Collaboration. Assess how effectively the leader addressed any problems involving ethical practice in the case. Conclusion. (3–4 paragraphs.) Summarize how well the leader managed professional responsibilities and priorities to resolve the issue in the case. What lessons could you take away from this case which could be applied by other leaders? Reference page. (A separate page.) List references in alphabetical order. Other Requirements Your paper should meet the following requirements: Length: 3–4 typed, double-spaced pages, not including the title page and reference page. Font and font size: Times New Roman, 12 point. Written communication: Use correct spelling, grammar, punctuation, and capital letters where required. Content: Integrate information from outside sources, including at least one academic peer-reviewed journal article on health care leadership. Integrate this information into the academic writing by quoting, paraphrasing and summarizing. References: Use at least two references (a journal article and the selected case) and three in-text citations within this paper. APA format: Use an APA title page, APA page headers, and page numbers. Follow current APA guidelines for in-text citation of outside sources in the body of your paper and also on the reference page.
